Newport Guide

My favorite thing to do during summer is going to Newport. It's ruffly one hour drive from Providence, not counting the traffic in the summer (have solution for that) and it's just a perfect escape.  With a beautiful beaches, mansions, and restaurants Newport has so much to offer. Keep reading and you will find out my favorite places that you must see while in Newport.

First lets talk about getting there. You can drive, but since I promised you traffic less solution I do recommend ferry.  Seastreak  departs from Providence and it takes one hour to get there. Ferry has seats inside and on a deck if you would like to travel with a wind in your hair.

Now let's talk about things to see. Your number one priority should be mansions, after all it's Rhode Island's most-visited cultural landmarks. I visited four the most popular ones, so you should start there: Marble House, The Elms, The Breakers, Rosecliff. Most of them were summer homes suitable for entertaining on a grand scale.  All are very unique and beautiful in their own way.

If you like a walk on the beach, but don't want a sand in your shoes Cliff walk is where you should go. It's 3.5 miles paved walk that borders the shore line. Also if you skipped mansions you can see back of their properties as well.

Now let's talk about food. I love eating in restaurants with  delicious food and beautiful view, and Newport doesn't disappoints.
Below is a picture from my lunch at The Landing. Not pictured is a huge portion of fish and chips served on a plater, and I still can't get enough of that view.

One of the famous spots is Clarke Cook House. Didn't had a chance to try their kitchen, but cocktails were delicious. Plus they have two parts of the restaurant: Upscale and Casual dinning.

If you don't care about the view and looking for a family friendly place I highly recommend O'Brien's Pub. First of all food and drinks are delicious! By far the best fish and chips I had ever tasted. Secondly they have a big fountain in the middle of the patio with toys where kids can play a fishing game while you stuff your face. I call this win win.
Newport is a beautiful city with beautiful beaches, parks, and architecture. I just started to learn more about it, and I'm sure to fill you up on my future posts.
