I mentioned this more than once: Fall isn't my favorite season, mostly because of the cold weather. However, lately, I've been enjoying all the Fall's activities quite a lot. If you ask a child what is their favorite activity they respond apple/pumpkin picking, for adults, it's wine tasting. So in today's post, I will cover all of that and will share with you my favorite places.
It's a season of apple crisp, apple cider donuts, and apples in general. Last year we went to Belkin Family Lookout Farm in Natick. They have tons of activities for kids, and it's very fun. It's a bit price in my opinion and we didn't want to spend there all day so we decided to find something closer to us. The choice fell on Phantom Farm in Cumberland. They have lots of mums, pumpkins, and a store with a cafe. Lots of sitting inside and outside, and it's decorated for Halloween. The only downside was that on the day we came orchard was closed, so we didn't have a full experience. I still recommend it and probably will go back next year.
Since I promised my daughter apple picking we went to Jaswell's Farm in Smithfield. We were there 3 years ago and had a great experience and it didn't disappoint. Their apples are delicious, plus they have a big field of pumpkins. Apple cider donuts and apple cider is our favorite treat after picking apples and "mandatory family photos'' like my friend said.
Now let's talk about wine tasting. Last weekend I went to Diamond Hill Vineyards and had a great time. It's a small vineyard in Cumberland, but very cozy and charming. Their wine selection isn't big, and most of the vines are mixed with fruits like blackberries, raspberries, cranberries. Even though I like fruity wines I wasn't impressed. The atmosphere is great though. They have tables on the patio, and all around the yard. You can bring your own food and have a nice picknick outside.
My favorite place for wine tasting is Newport Vineyards. We went there last year and already scheduled a visit for next week. The vineyard is big and has been operating for 25 years. They have a gift shop, and restaurant. If your other half isn't wine drinker they have a brewery and do a beer tasting. They do have a lot of sitting outside and inside, but definitely make reservations during a busy season.
If you have a favorite farm or vineyard let me know, I always like to try new places.
